GIS Careers Highlighted
Kenney Middle School
Hannibal, NY
Several
teachers from the Hannibal School District created GIS
activities and units to use for the 2007-08 school year. A few
members of the group decided to support their curriculum work
by hosting a GIS Day in our school district to showcase
careers in our community related to GIS. Read
more and see photos.

GIS for Politics and Santa Claus
As the United States presidential primaries progress, it's no surprise that some sites are using mapping to help understand trends by state and county. Take a look at these sites:
- The Electoral Map is a relatively new blog that looks at politics and geography.
- Political Maps, with the byline "Political News as told by maps," also tracks the primaries from a mapping perspective.
A recent post on the My Wonderful World Blog highlights how engineers at the Swedish Company SWECO employed GIS to determine that Santa Claus should start his Christmas Eve sleigh ride in Kyrgyzstan and travel west around the globe to help maximize travel efficiency. Read more.
Do You Have an Exciting GIS Day Activity?
GIS Day shirts awarded to the most interesting submission!
GIS Day will mark its tenth anniversary in 2008. Many of you have developed creative GIS Day programs and activities. We would love to hear your ideas for activities to share with the GIS Day community.
Please take a few moments and submit a GIS Day activity. This could include a GIS-related game, an activity that teaches GIS to attendees, a fun theme idea, or GIS Day materials you've designed such as posters, signs, crossword puzzles, etc.
The GIS Day committee will pick the most interesting submission, and the winner will be awarded five GIS Day shirts. Please submit entries by Friday, February 29.

Bill Graff, State of New Jersey writes:
"Has a
date been set for GIS Day 2008? We would like to highlight the
date on a 2008 calendar."
GIS Day Team responds:
GIS Day is celebrated on
the Wednesday of Geography Awareness Week, which is the third
