Discover the world through GIS! November 18 was International GIS Day, and the Acopian Center for the Environment invited interested parties to celebrate this important technology with them at the American University of Armenia.
The GIS Day 2009 Celebration was a great opportunity to present GIS, learn about new applications in Armenia, and meet providers and users of GIS and related services. Over fifty participants from private companies, state agencies, universities, major NGOs, and international organizations took part in the celebration. The program covered a poster presentation showing the work of major organizations applying GIS in Armenia, interactive computer stations to learn more about GIS first-hand, a quiz and lottery, and a special GIS Day cake. It was already the second time that GIS stakeholders from Armenia met over such an event following the first GIS and Remote Sensing Conference which was hosted by the Acopian Center for the Environment and Geocom in December 2008. And again it was a great success and a great opportunity for improved cooperation among institutions working in the same field. We are looking forward to next year's celebration! See photos.
