Greetings from The BNGIS Centre!
The event at Sadie Curtis Primary School was held on Wed. 15th November 2006 at 10:45am -11:45am.
Sadie Curtis Primary School hosted a GIS Day celebration for the first time. The BNGIS Centre's GIS Analyst, Danielle Hanek, gave an introduction to GIS presentation to 32 students of Mrs. Sybil Taylor's grade 6 class. The presentation highlighted local use of GIS by prominent agencies. Students were amazed that GIS technology is being used in The Bahamas and expressed interest in learning what types of careers exist in the field.
Students were given opportunities to answer questions about the presentation. When they had the correct answer, they were rewarded with GIS Day gifts such as pencils, buttons, whistles, disposable cameras, and newsletters.
At the end of the presentation, the principal, teachers, and students celebrated as they shared in the cutting of a GIS Day 2006 cake.
Sadie Curtis Primary School is one of ten schools participating in a 3-year GI Education Project and is the first school in The Bahamas to have a GIS Youth Club. Therefore, they celebrated with having a cake for all the student's teachers who participated. See our photos.
