The Thurrock Council GIS Team celebrated this year's GIS Day by holding an event at neighboring Southend Council, where they have just taken over managing the corporate GIS. Port Hedland Port Authority and Dampier Port Authority, both from Western Australia, held a joint celebration for GIS Day 2010. They made two cakes (see closeup). Particularly popular was their cheesecake showing the continents with a Robinson projection. Passionfruit topping was used for the continents. Judith A. Chinn, Owner/3D Model Builder of JAC GeoDesign in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, delivered a "Happy GIS Day" speech to her Toastmasters group. She got right into the spirit of GIS Day and included a GIS Day Cake in her presentation. The speech and cake were prototypes of the presentation she will be doing at her local University (Vancouver Island University) on GIS Day in November. The cake was created by Sarah Wallbank of Parfait Gourmet Desserts. She's a big fan of GIS. And, yes, the satellites are edible.
